"Truth is stranger than fiction,
but it is because Fiction is

obliged to stick to possibilities;
Truth isn't."          Mark Twain

The Strange True World of New Orleans is far beyond any novel, ghost or vampire story or Hollywood movie. It is a world of fun and frivolity, where all who live here are infected with the 'Peter Pan' syndrome. There are worse to have....

Your Guide

Picture

Hello and welcome to Strange True Tours.
My name is Master Jeffrey Holmes and this is the tour I have always wanted to do.

When I returned to New Orleans over a decade ago it was a dream of mine to one day become a New Orleans tour guide, fast forward 10 years and with the help of my partner Jane we have created a historic walking tour of the French Quarter that is fun, entertaining and exciting as well as informative.

The people weren't boring, things they accomplished were not boring, so why should your tour be boring?
Our subjects range from prostitutes and slavery to hot dogs and termites, all true, all strange......

Come join us for a glimpse into the weird, strange and sordid side of New Orleans history.

Strange True Tours

The ORIGINAL Adult oriented , historic tour about the fun, true, quirky, unusual, weird, strange underworld of New Orleans.

Our knowledgeable and entertaining tour guides cover a wide range of subjects from pirates, prostitutes and slavery, to Lee Harvey Oswald and the New Orleans Mafia / JFK connection.

Depending upon your guide, you can hear interesting stories about our restaurant industry, famous chefs, hot dogs, dueling, jazz funerals, political intrigue, family dirt, termites or even a Streetcar named Desire. The strange, true stories of New Orleans knows no bounds.

You will laugh and maybe be shocked at times, but you will have a great time learning about our city. All of these stories are historically accurate and documented, and that's the best part of all!

Research, Research, Research!

Picture

We go to the source for our stories!
Here is the Rev. Master Jeffrey with Judyth Vary Baker in Toronto.
Lee Harvey Oswalds' lover in 1963 here in New Orleans. Her story is simply mind blowing!

Our research goes beyond the norm for the typical NOLA tour guide.
We are in direct contact with a lot of the authors that we quote and glean our stories from.

Be it the New Orleans Mafia, tales of prostitutes, hot dog vendors or restaurateurs ,

we sit down with, email or chat on the phone directly with the original source.
Even traveling to a foreign country, our efforts knows no bounds!

Come hear these historically documented tales of the weird,

strange underworld that is New Orleans.

A Wienie Habit

Picture

Lucky Dogs! A New Orleans habit for 60 years now.

Managing Ignatius was written over a decade ago by Jerry Strahan about the antics of these characters including drunks, swindlers, transvestites and malcontents that have pushed a Lucky Dog cart through the French Quarter.
We have a few snippets from this hilarious account of our New Orleans characters.

We Love A Parade!

Picture

We parade for anything and everything!
Funerals, Weddings, Birthdays, Super Bowl Celebrations!

Our traditions have grown over decades with different cultural influences helping shape the modern day Jazz Funeral.

We share the history of this wonderful tradition so that you know what this is all about and who its for.
All our parades are audience participation, so please join in!

Pirates on the Horizon

Picture

Many myths & legends abound about the Pirates Lafitte.

Several bars named after them with some great stories behind them, we will separate the truth from legend about these men and their deeds.

Sin City

Picture

Initially populated by thieves and prostitutes, not a damn thing has changed.

Bourbon St. is our sin center these days but we have stories of when prostitution was legal in New Orleans.

Mr. New Orleans

Picture

Wiseguys called him "The Keith Richards of the American Mafia" and JFK hero Jim Garrison denounced him "one of the most notorious vice operators in the history of New Orleans" ... but you can just call him Mr. New Orleans.

Mr. New Orleans tells the incredible story of Frenchy Brouillete, a Cajun country boy has been on a 50-year-long sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll bender as the New Orleans Mafia’s sex rackets chief and statewide political fixer.

Much like his cousin and protector, felonious four-time Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards, bodybuilding champion Frenchy lived a life of epic glamour and debauchery during the golden age of the American Mafia and New Orleans French Quarter.

In Mr. New Orleans, Frenchy becomes the first man in history to break the code of secrecy in the New Orleans Mafia Family and share the shocking true story of America's oldest and most mysterious crime family … and its potential involvement in the Kennedy Assassination.

Me & Lee

Judyth Vary Baker was once a promising science student who dreamed of finding a cure for cancer, but strayed from a path of mainstream scholarship at the University of Florida to a life of espionage in New Orleans with Lee Harvey Oswald.
